The Çanakkale Victory and Martyrs’ Memorial Day assembly at TAC brought together the members of the community who commemorated troops of fallen soldiers in the national campaign for independence, led by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. The Turkish soldiers, who did not hesitate to risk their lives to free their homeland of enemies 110 years ago, blocked the advancement of the enemy troops through the Dardanelles Strait, branding the famous words in our national history: “Çanakkale is Impassable!”.
The assembly started with a moment of silence and the National Anthem, followed by the remarks of our Principal. Listening to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's letter to Anzac mothers and the response of an Australian mother and watching the oratory performance prepared by the TAC Drama Club, we all felt the spirit of the Turkish victory in Çanakkale. Following an impressive rendition by our school band, the assembly concluded with an enthusiastic recitation of the 10 stanzas of the Turkish National Anthem by the young students from Şehit İsrafil Işık Primary School of Pirömerli Village, who joined us on this special day.
As the TAC community, we are well aware that if we live in a free country today, it is thanks to the sacrifice of many lives 110 years ago. Our duty then is to protect this legacy and to hold on to our contry and our values, remembering Atatürk’s words: “You cannot understand the Campaign of Independence without understanding Çanakkale”.
