ECHOES FROM THE GRADE 10 DEBATE CHALLENGE

Debate, the verbal discussion of a topic guided by specific rules and methods, is given major importance by the Turkish Literature Department at TAC. The debate this year saw stiff competition between the grade 10 sections, and concerned a highly relevant issue: “The Pros and Cons of Free Entrance by Syrian Refugees in Europe”. Two groups of students acting as the "government” and the “opposition” tried to justify their respective arguments (thesis and anti-thesis) within the three minute limit, following which questions and answers and summary sections were completed. Students who illustrated their ideas with examples communicated their ideas highly effectively.

As a result of the scoring by the jury of Önder Şit, Oğuz Korkmaz, Sheila Salim and Gülşah Yücedağ, 10A, represented by Selin Seçen, Ali Alp Dinçer and Güneş Sezer was the winner, and  was awarded gift certificates. Güneş Sezer was also found worthy of the award for "Best Public Speaker”. We would like to thank 10B, represented by İrem Narin, Umut Barış Özen and Çetin Çelikyılmaz for their participation and efforts, and Nil Yağmurİlba for her successful presentation of the program.
