TAC Visit Brings Hope To The Oncology Ward

All Grades ( May 28, 2016)

Tarsus American College students visited the children with leukemia being treated at the Acıbadem Hospital in Adana on Sunday, 28 May. The proceeds of the bake sales organized by the Turkish Literature Department were used to buy toys which would make the children happy. The hospital staff who welcomed us at the hospital shared our excitement. It was a bittersweet experience for all us: while we were saddened by very young children giving up hope on life with leukemia, we were happy when saw the little girl who got the coloring set she dreamt about brought as a gift to her. Those little hearts who have been waiting in hope in this hospital ward for months, maybe years, saw that they were remembered. We talked about popular TV series with those who were not very much drifted from the current cultural agenda of their peers, and those who found that they share the same hometowns took one another outside of the confines of the hospital room talking about their memories. We felt the warmth of spending one hour giving care and sharing hope, instead of being on our social media and cellphones and we said goodbye to our hosts to see them again next year.
