TAC Students Visit Mersın Akdeniz Care Center for the Physically Disabled

The Tarsus American College Mathematics Department organized a visit to the Mersin Akdeniz Care Center for the Physically Disabled with a group of students on December 9, 2017.

TAC students, who were accompanied by their mathematics teachers, Bikem Can and Cengiz Gündoğdu, made the center’s residents feel valued by giving them the company and interesting conversations they were longing for. During their conversations with the residents of the nursing home, our students were very touched by some interesting and some challenging life experiences of the residents. Our students served the cakes they brought with them to their elder residents, and ended their meaningful visits by promising to come back.

We would like to thank our students who took part in this event: Mert Okuyaz, Yağmur Efil Görür, Lara Aksoy and Tuna Toprak Çavaş.

The impressions of Lara Aksoy, a grade 10 student, about this visit are as follows:

"As one of the students going to the care center in Mersin, I believe that this was the best community service activity organized by the school. The atmosphere in the center and the warmth made us feel part of the family. There were those who really loved being there, as well as those who were trying to cope with many difficulties, such as missing their homes.

Our goal as TAC students was to make a difference in their lives and share something with them. The expression on their faces as they greeted us was definitely satisfaction. I would like to be part of another visit as I thoroughly enjoyed the conversations we had with the residents”
