International DNA Day

TAC’s Science Department conducted a series of hands-on and visual activities to celebrate the 25th of April, International DNA Day, under the supervision of our biology teachers,

During this event, organized by 10th and 11th IB students, we had a fun day with different activities structured around various stations.

In the first station, Ege Bayram and Ege Yüceel from grade 10 and Idil Güdemez, Umay Nursal and Deniz Koçak from 11IB presented the function of DNA to Prep students. In the second station,  our 10th graders, Merve Bostan, Yaren Karakucak, Aegean Ögetman, Venus Sahin, Arjin Deniz, İlayda Güner, Hüseyin Megrel and Emir Akgün and 11IB students Tuna Çavaş, Emre Yapıcı and Atakan Önenli gave students the opportunity to observe an experimental environment in which DNA was extracted. In the third station, students designed a DNA model from various candies with the guidance of our 10th grade students in the presence of Ali Ata Ediz and Nisa Serin. It was a bonus to enjoy these ‘edible’ models after the event. The DNA-themed cookies, which were offered for sale in the garden throughout the day, were also very popular.

The international DNA Day celebrations were very enjoyable for all our students who participated in the event, and helped to increase the students' knowledge about the topic; at the same time, it was a good experience for our 10th grade and 11IB students.
