TAC’s 9TH Graders in the Aegean Region for Literature, History and Geography Exploration

The Author, Space, Geography and History Trip, which took place on April 2-4, 2018, as part of our interdisciplinary studies between Social Sciences and Turkish Literature Departments, was supervised by Ms. Gülden Balaban, geography teacher, Ms. Sermin Yilmaz, Turkish literature teacher, and our assistant principal, Gülay Damar. While reinforcing learning in place, the trip also provided students with many moments to have fun with friends. The students listened to narrations at the Latife Hanım Mansion attentively, which is full of Atatürk's memoirs, while experiencing emotional moments.

Impressions of a few of the students participating in the trip:

"We were introduced to our tour guide as soon as we checked out of our early morning flight who told us that we would first visit Ephesus Antique City. Ephesus is a historical area in Selçuk province of Izmir, declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. We were taken away by the beauty of the historic monuments as we entered the antique city. The fact that this city, founded in year 300 B.C, was still able to survive, actually surprised us. Another place that impressed us in the city of Ephesus was the Celsus Library. It has amazing architecture, preserved almost without any damage. After touring the Library, we headed to the area where there were gladiator fights in Ephesus, the largest antique theatre in Turkey. We liked the theater very much. The visit to Ephesus was a very beautiful experience for us. "

"On the second day of our holiday, we headed towards Kuşadası, which is in Aydın province. We arrived in Kuşadası in about thirty minutes passing through greenery and flower-decorated roads. We were tired due to the busy schedule of the previous day, but the wonderfully beautiful sea air that welcomed us when we got off the bus made up for everything. Pigeon Island, which is one of the most important locations of Kuşadası, became our first stop. The peninsula extending to the sea takes this name as it is visited by many varieties of birds. After listening to what our guide told us, we started a two-hour walk by the coast. We then sat at a restaurant in Marina, overlooking the sea. We took delight in watching this amazing scenery while sipping our coffees. After these enjoyable hours, we went to the meeting place and got on to our shuttle for our next stop”.

"We got up early in the morning to sunlight and a sea view and had our breakfast. On the second day, we were heading for Şirince. We were greeted by the birds singing and the beautiful natural environment of Şirince. When we got off the bus, we saw the streets with magnificently restored houses and the floral crowns  which are made by elderly street vendors and sold on the streets. We sat in one of the nice restaurants and enjoyed the unique local food. The trip ended with beautiful memories and I advise everyone to sign up for the next one.”
