Have You Seen the Taşkuyu Cave in Tarsus?

Students from TAC’s Natural Sciences Club visited Taşkuyu Cave during the club hour with teachers Gulden Balaban and Dr. Duygu Gülev. Taşkuyu Cave is a great destination to explore as it features extraordinary natural beauty and a history dating back tens of thousands of years old.  The site was discovered by chance while road construction was underway in 2006 and was operating and open to the public in December 2014.

Taşkuyu Cave is located in the district of Tarsus in Mersin, a mear 10 kilometers northwest of Tarsus.  The cave is 470 meters long and contains various rock formations including stalactites, stalagmites, columns, and limestone formations, as well as cave pearls, which are a rarity in Turkey.

Through this trip, the Natural Sciences Club were able to see local history and natural beauty in the mystical atmosphere of the Taşkuyu Cave. The club encourages others to visit the cave where the entrance fee is free.
