Tarsus American College Second Foreign Language Conference

TAC hosted the Second Foreign Language Conference to address the added variety in the teaching of second foreign languages, on Saturday, January 05, 2019.  This year marked the second time the SFL conference was held at TAC.

The conference focused on professional development and information sharing by teachers of German and French. TAC Principal Ms. Günseli Yüksel addressed the participants in the conference hall emphasizing the importance of speaking a second foreign language. After the opening remarks and welcome, the teachers who came from different schools, as well as student teachers or teachers in training participated in presentations which were offered in different classrooms. The participants had the opportunity to exchange ideas, share information on current issues and best practices in the teaching of foreign languages. In the seminars, different methods and techniques were shared with teachers through a hands-on approach. The goal of the conference was to develop in classrooms basic language skills, bringing them to the level of "basic speakers" of the second foreign language they are speaking, enabling them to express themselves freely in this context.

The event also featured some publishing houses offering books and print materials used in language teaching allow teachers to see the latest products on language training through booths on the TAC campus.

The conference ended with closing remarks given by Ms. Tuba Baykal, Head of TAC’s Second Foreign Language Department, followed by the presentation of certificates to the workshop facilitators and all participants.
