Tarsus American Colleges Host Children’s Day Assembly

On Monday, 22 April, Tarsus American College recognized the national holiday with a colorful assembly attended by students, teachers, parents, and special guests.

This celebration was prepared by the English and Prep Departments and included many TAC students involved in the planning, decoration, promotion, and performances.

The assembly started with a moment of silence and the national anthem

Followed by a message from Grade 11-12 Dean Gulay Damar.  The audience then watched a video message of children from around the world acknowledging Children's Day that included English, Turkish and other languages.  This was followed by a recital of poems by Grade 11 IB students.

The audience in Talas Auditorium were then treated to a classical concert performance by the flutist Şefika Kutluer and other musicians.  Following the beautiful concert, a video showcasing well known Turkish nationals in their youth was shown, followed by a performance from visiting school children performing in Turkish and English.

TAC students have been building relationships with two different community schools throughout the year.  The groups included Syrian children who have lost families during the Syrian War. Grade 11 IB students taught them the English song "Imagine" and a Turkish song which symbolizes hope and happiness. The program closed with children from Hasan Karamehmet Primary School, TAC’s neighboring school.  The children recited the Turkish National Anthem recited to end the assembly.
