DNA Day

TAC’s Science Department, organized a series of hands-on and visual activities to celebrate International DNA Day at TAC on April 25. Grade 10 and 11 students led rotation stations giving students moving through the event fun and different activities to experiment and experience Science.

In the first station activity, Ege Bayram and Ege Yüceel from Grade 11 provided Prep students general information about the structure and function of DNA. At the end of the presentation, the prep students competed in a game of Kahoot to review. At the second station, TAC students had the opportunity to observe the experimental environment where several Grade 10 and 11 students extracted the DNA of strawberries and bananas. In the third station, Grade 10 students designed DNA models using candy, and the finished products were eaten afterward!

As part of the vertical curriculum collaboration, Grade 8 students also joined in the fun of learning science by participating in the experiment, presentation, and candy DNA production.

The celebration of the international DNA Day, was delightful for everyone attending the event as it not only drew the further interest of the students in the subject but also helped Grade 10 and 11 students model their learning for other students and teachers participating in the event.
