SEV American Schools Youth Drama Festival
The second annual SEV American High Schools Youth Drama festival was hosted by Tarsus American College on 18-20 of April 2019. The festival opened with welcome messages from the Principal, Mrs. Günseli Yüksel, and Turkish Drama Club Advisors Mr. Mikail İncir and Ms. Tuba Karabağ. The festival program continued with eight plays staged by talented, almost professional young actors. In preparation for the event, each sister school prepared two performances resulting in many different kinds of stage places ranging from comedy to epic theater, and musical skits. On the first day of the festival, each school brought to the stage one original play. The fun and peals of laughter continued into the evening dinner held on the alumni field. The students danced together, sang songs and the night ended with singing along to the Izmir Anthem. The second day continued with the performances of student-produced plays. As the day came to a close, students joined the certificate ceremony and the group photo in front of Stickler steps before saying their goodbyes. Students in attendance enjoyed being immersed in the world of art for two full days on the TAC campus, and the event ran without problems or disruption. Guest teachers and students thanked TAC’s Turkish Language and Literature Department, especially the Turkish Drama Club teachers. The love and friendship built between teachers and students of the sister schools was impressive, and attendees remarked they are already looking forward to meeting again next year.
