Stem Week Activities at TAC

STEM week events started on April 22, 2019, at TAC and continued during the rest of the week. Students in TAC's Biotechnology Club had been growing bicolor sorghum plants which are considered to be the cheapest source of sugar in the world. Currently, the Club is producing bioethanol in a fermenter that they have developed to generate electricity from this plant.

For this experiment, Club students monitored a 24-hour fermentation process using various electronic devices such as PH sensors and dissolved CO2 sensors which were used to collect data. This experiment allowed students to observe and document data using computer-generated graphs to measure the electricity generated in the process. Within the scope of this project, students used knowledge from biology, technology, and chemistry to conduct this hands-on experiment.
